“We got a huge rush of calls when our tickets went on sale. We got four times the volume and handled the calls without any problems. That’s how a phone system should be. The phone system should be transparent to our customers calling in and just do its job. With ShoreTel we got all the added features without having to buy additional hardware, software or adding to extra administrative overhead. We got everything we needed in an easy-to-use package.” -Vice President of Technology for the Boston Celtics, Jay Wessel

FRAMINGHAM, MASS.- ShoreTel® (SHOR), the leading provider of brilliantly simple premise and cloud-based business phone system and communication solutions with fully integrated unified communications (UC), announced that the 17-time World Champion Boston Celtics have selected ShoreTel for their ongoing UC needs.

Founded in 1946, the NBA franchise has a die-hard devoted fan base and ever-growing popularity. As a result, the organization saw the need to expand office space and increase personnel. Moreover, over the past several years, the team’s vice president of technology, Jay Wessel, embraced additional responsibilities, which gave him less time to manage an aging phone system. The Celtics needed modern features but without added administration; they either had to upgrade their old system or displace it.

Working with ShoreTel reseller Harbor Networks, the Boston Celtics selected a ShoreTel unified communication solution for its ease of installation and administration, along with absolute reliability. And speed of implementation was critical, since ticketing season was about to open for the reigning NBA Atlantic champions.

Some of the features include workgroups so sales and marketing can easily track calls and call volume, ensuring a satisfactory customer experience, as well as the ShoreTel conference bridge, because their end users love being able to easily schedule a conference without having to use an outside service.

“Because the ShoreTel system deploys and scales with ease, the Celtics can rest assured that they will always be able to connect with their increasing fan base,” said Kevin Gavin, chief marketing officer at ShoreTel. “With increased power on the court, the Celtics are ready to usher in a new team era. Off the court, ShoreTel is ready to give the franchise the flexibility it needs for a long postseason run.”

“As we’re Celtic’s fans through and through, Harbor Networks is thrilled to work with the team to install a ShoreTel system,” said Greg Bertschmann, president of Harbor Networks. “Our company has always been committed to providing reliable leading edge solutions and we’re sure that the brilliantly simple ShoreTel solution is the perfect fit for the Boston Celtics organization.”

The 17-time championship-winning Boston Celtics is the latest professional sports team to bring ShoreTel to the big leagues. The Celtics join other ShoreTel communications customers, including long-time NBA rivals Los Angeles Lakers, the Verizon Center home of the Washington Wizards, as well as Major League Baseball teams San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins, National Hockey League Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues, the training facility of the National Football League St. Louis Rams, and Rio Tinto Stadium, home of the Major League Soccer Real Salt Lake.
